The Story of the Lion and the Hare – East Africa (Original Version)

In the vast savannas of East Africa, where the golden grass swayed under the warm sun, there lived a mighty lion. He was the king of the jungle, feared by all the animals for his strength and ferocity. Every day, the lion hunted the animals, and they lived in constant fear of his wrath.

Tired of living in terror, the animals gathered for a meeting to devise a plan to appease the lion. They decided to send one animal each day to the lion as a sacrifice, hoping that this would satisfy his hunger and spare the rest of them. The lion agreed to the plan, and for a while, peace returned to the savanna.

One day, it was the hare’s turn to be sent to the lion. The hare was clever and quick-witted, and he did not wish to become the lion’s meal. As he made his way to the lion’s den, the hare devised a plan to outsmart the fearsome king.

The hare took his time, arriving late to the lion’s den. The lion was furious and roared, “Why are you late, and why have you come alone? I am hungry, and you have kept me waiting!”

The hare bowed respectfully and said, “Oh mighty lion, I apologize for my tardiness. As I was making my way here, I encountered another lion who claimed to be the true king of the jungle. He tried to eat me, but I told him that you were the only king. He challenged your authority and demanded that I bring you to him.”

The lion’s pride was wounded, and he growled, “Another lion? Show me this impostor, and I will teach him a lesson!”

The hare led the lion to a deep well filled with water. As they approached, the hare pointed to the well and said, “The other lion is hiding in there.”

The lion peered into the well and saw his own reflection in the water. Mistaking it for the rival lion, he roared furiously. His reflection roared back, and in his rage, the lion leapt into the well to attack.

The lion struggled in the water, unable to escape. The hare watched from the edge, knowing that the savanna was now free from the lion’s tyranny.

The animals rejoiced when they heard of the hare’s cleverness and bravery. They celebrated their newfound freedom and hailed the hare as a hero.

From that day on, the tale of the Lion and the Hare was told across the savanna, a reminder that wit and intelligence can triumph over brute strength.

The End.
